Happy Place - Part 2

Pete knew his parents well enough to sense when something was off. But he didn't want to ruin their day at Disney World. Maybe he was just imagining things.

As they continued walking through the park, Pete noticed his parents behaving in ways that were completely out of character. His father, or rather Kyle pretending to be his father, was usually reserved and cautious, but now he was boldly trying out every ride and attraction with a newfound enthusiasm. His mother, inhabited by Jack, had always been meticulous and organized, yet she seemed carefree and impulsive, eagerly participating in games and activities without a second thought.

"Okay, what's going on?" Pete stopped in his tracks, his voice laced with concern, "You guys are acting really strange."

Jack, in Pete's mother's body, exchanged a nervous glance with Kyle. They hadn't anticipated Pete catching on so quickly.

"Pete," Jack stuttered, his voice coming out in that of Pete's mother, "We just thought...it would be fun, you know? To be your parents for a day and experience this magical place together."

"...What are you talking about? Who are you then?"

"Pete, it's us—Jack and Kyle," Kyle giggled.

"I can't believe you guys did this without telling me," Pete said, his eyes scanning his parents' bodies, especially uncomfortable with the idea of Jack inhabiting his mother's body.

"Look, Pete, we didn't mean to upset you. We just wanted to experience Disney World like you and your parents have."

Pete's initial frustration began to fade as he saw the genuine excitement in his friends' eyes.

"What's going on here?" Pete's girlfriend, Emily, returned from the bathroom.

Jack glared at Pete.

"Uh, it's nothing," Pete said sheepishly, as he came around to the idea, "We were just talking about where to go for lunch."

Emily raised an eyebrow, "Sounds good to me!"

"So, Mom, what did we decide?" Pete asked Jack.

Jack, still adjusting to the unfamiliar role of Pete's mom, cleared his throat and flashed a smile, "Well, I was thinking we could try out the burger place over there."
