No One Can Know - Part 3

They sat by a little table at the ice cream shop. Pete was digging into Talia’s favorite: mint chocolate chip, while Gabe scooped his cookies and cream.

“I think you just can’t handle the perfection that is cookies and cream.”

“Please,” Pete scoffed, deliberately taking a big bite of his mint chocolate chip and letting out an exaggerated moan, “This right here is the true winner.”

Gabe rolled his eyes but couldn’t help smiling as he watched Talia's body enjoy the treat.

“Seriously though,” Gabe said after a moment of silence, “how does it feel being in her body? Being a girl and all? Like, having boobs and, you know…”

Pete paused, his spoon hovering above the bowl as he contemplated how to answer, “You really wanna know?”

Gabe nodded.

“Having boobs is totally awesome. I mean, they bounce when I walk! And it’s a strange sensation, feeling their weight and the way they fit against… well, everything.”

Gabe raised an eyebrow, intrigued, “Everything?”

Pete blushed and looked away, focusing intently on his ice cream, “Yeah, you know… like how my bra straps dig into my shoulders sometimes or how I have to adjust them to get comfortable.”

“Wow,” Gabe said, taking another bite of his ice cream as he processed this new information, “And what about other parts? Like down there…”

“Oh god,” Pete groaned, feeling his cheeks heat up even more, “Can we not talk about that?”

Gabe shot him a look.

“Okay, fine,” Pete conceded, glancing around to make sure no one was eavesdropping, “Honestly? I don’t really miss having a dick.”

Gabe leaned forward, captivated by Pete’s confession, “So you’re saying it’s better?”

“Not better or worse. Just… different,” Pete replied carefully, gauging Gabe's reaction.

“You know… It’s pretty cool. Dating my best friend and all. I mean, I miss Talia. But, at the same time, we get to hang out all the time like when we were kids. I love you, man.”

“I …love you, too…” Pete gulped, “As a friend. You know what I mean.”

“Sure hits different now that we’ve had sex… And now that you’re a hot chick.”

“Hot chick?” Pete couldn't help but laugh, shaking his head.

“Come on,” Gabe grabbed his hand, “Think about it. How perfect is this? Be honest.”

“I guess it’s kind of fun being a hot chick, if I’m honest.”

“No, I mean us… I don’t know,” Gabe said softly, his gaze flickering to the window where the moonlight spilled into the shop, illuminating the space between them, “I feel so torn sometimes. I want to hold on to what we had, but I also really… I don’t know how to say it without sounding crazy.”

“Just say it,” Pete encouraged gently, still holding onto Gabe's hand.

Gabe took a deep breath as if summoning courage, “I think you make a better Talia.”
