Ryan walked around the college campus. The spring breeze tugged at his hair, reminding him that this was real—this life was his now. He adjusted the strap of his duffel bag, feeling the familiar weight of books and the unfamiliar lightness of carrying them as Gemma.
He’d even started dating a guy from his sociology class. It was thrilling and nerve-wracking, navigating a relationship on the other side. But Gemma had been right—it felt strangely natural. Just like everything else since they’d decided to make this switch permanent.
His phone buzzed with a notification—a message from Gemma.
“Hey sis, how’s my old school?”
“Good! Not missing it at all, I hope?” Ryan typed back, feeling the satisfying click of the keys beneath his thumbs.
“Not a bit. Love being done with college. Again.” Her reply was immediate, laced with the humor that had been their lifeline through this whole journey.
A group of classmates waved at him from across the quad, and he tucked his phone away with a grin.
“Hey!” he called back, his voice high and clear and so perfectly Gemma’s.
