Billy opened his eyes. The morning light slanted through the window, illuminating the room in a soft blur.
He looked down at himself. Erica's body. Still.
He tried to calm the terror that rose in him. He would not let her win. He would not let himself be trapped.
He reached for the seam, and this time he wouldn’t stop until he was himself again.
“Billy…” Erica’s voice was a warm caress, “Stay with me…”
His hands trembled at the base of his neck, and he pulled, feeling it give, feeling it come free.
He lay back, breathless, back to being a boy. He didn’t move for a long while.
He had to find Fred. He had to explain that Erica had taken over and pretended to be him.
“Fred!” he barged into his friend’s bedroom.
Fred opened his eyes. He looked at Billy.
“Welcome back,” Fred said with a smirk.
Billy’s eyes were wide, “She said she was me.”
“What do you mean? Weren’t you …you?”
“It was Erica! She took over and pretended to be me!” Billy was almost shouting.
Fred blinked, caught off guard by Billy’s panic.
“I thought—” Fred started, but Billy interrupted.
“I’m not doing it again,” he said, “I’m never doing it again.”
Fred was silent, watching Billy’s expression, the fear in his eyes.
Billy took a breath, trying to calm himself, “I barely got out.”
Fred finally spoke, his voice cautious, “So you …weren’t you?”
“No, I told you! It was her! She pretended to be me so she could stay like that.”
Fred hesitated, “But you got out. You did it.”
Billy sat down heavily on the edge of the bed, “I’m not going to next time. You didn’t see. You don’t know. Every second, she’s stronger.”
Fred picked up the mask, staring at it with a strange mix of longing and uncertainty, “You really think it’s that dangerous?”
“Yeah.”
Fred rolled his eyes, “I bet I can control her.”
“Fred, you don’t know what it’s like!”
But Billy saw the old glint in Fred’s eyes. The one from the first night. Fred wasn’t scared. He was excited.
“Just watch.” Fred started pulling the mask over his head.
The transformation was immediate. Billy watched, heart hammering, as Fred’s body stretched, morphed, filled out. He was helpless to stop it, helpless to keep Fred from doing what he’d promised himself he’d never do again. Erica was back, and Billy felt a rush of fear.
Fred moaned, “Ohhh…”
Billy’s eyes widened, “Don’t let her take you! She’ll win! You’ll get stuck!”
Billy’s voice was a high-pitched squeak, “How are you going to stop her?”
Fred’s breasts rose and fell with his breathing.
Billy watched, unable to look away. Fred was fading, he knew it.
But he could see the struggle, the resistance, the determination to stay Billy finally couldn’t take it anymore, “If you’re still in there, you’ve got to fight!”
Fred’s mouth opened, closed, but no words came out.
Billy’s voice rose, “Fred!?”
“Yes...” Erica breathed, the sound a lingering caress, “Yes…”
Billy was on the brink of tears. His worst fear was coming true. He was losing his friend, and it was his fault, all his fault. He should never have brought the mask over. He should never have let Fred put it—
But something started to happen. He saw a familiar glint return to Fred's eyes.
He didn’t know how, but Fred was really doing it. Was really staying in control.
“Billy...” Fred’s voice was breathy, soft and high, but it was Fred’s.
Billy couldn’t believe it. He could hardly understand how, but Fred was still there. And not just a little. Not just a glimmer. He was there. He was really in control.
Fred let out a breathless laugh, “I’m still here!”
Billy stared, “How...?”
Fred sat up, his hands running over his grown-up body, “I’m me. I’m all me.”
Billy blinked, trying to take it in, “You’re... you’re...”
Fred’s voice was Erica’s, but his expression was all his own, “Told you I could do it.”
Billy gaped at him, at the woman his best friend had become, “Did you even hear her?”
Fred nodded, “She’s still there. But I’m stronger. I can still hear her though.”
Then Fred gasped, and smiled wickedly at Billy, “You really used a …dildo?”
Billy's face turned bright red, “Erica told you!?”
Fred’s giggle was girlish, “She said you loved it.”
